Owner Frequently Asked Questions

I appreciate your interest in Bluegrass Canine Dog Training Center. I have attempted to answer some of the most frequently asked questions from owners. If you don't see your answer here, just give me a call or email.

1. What does it cost?

The  obedience and manners program costs $1950.00 with 1/2 due at drop off and 1/2 due at pick up. This includes advanced off leash training.  All taxes and equipment are included in the price. The second dog in the same family or group is 1/2 price as long as schedules are the same for drop off, lessons, and pick up.

2. What is included?

In the obedience and manners program your dog will stay in the kennel and be worked 3-4 times a day. Commands covered include loose lead walk, heel, sit, sit/stay, down, down/stay and come when called.  Off leash control is included. ALSO- You will receive 3 private lessons as part of the package at no extra charge. One lesson per week during your dogs stay. ( 2 follow up lessons are available after you take your dog home, but are not a part of the program) .

3. If you train my dog, will he/she work for me?

Because you will come out each week for a private lesson, your dog will learn to work for you. The training is relationship based, private, and customized for you and your dog. You will learn as your dog learns, and become the leader you dog always wanted! You will learn leadership skills as well as dog psychology to create the pack structure your dog needs to be comfortable with you and your family.

4. What is your training "method"?

I use a mixture of methods. I am a balanced trainer, using both praise and fair, consistent, correction. I also use a variety of equipment to train. As I would use several different bits with a young horse, I may use 3-4 different collars in a training progression of a young dog. I let the dog decide what collar he will respect and respond to.

5. How many dogs are at the kennel?

Because I choose to keep my kennel small, there are usually about 6 dogs here. This allows me and my assistant to give lots of individual attention to each dog. There is a waiting list, so call early for information about reservations.

6. Is there a "guarantee"?

What I can guarantee is that your dog will learn the commands. I cannot guarantee your commitment to the training process. The dogs are always the easy part of the equation, and people training has become my specialty! I will work diligently to help you understand why your dog reacts as he/she does, and to help you correct and expand your dogs life. Creating your ideal dog is my favorite job. Clear requirements and goals are explained in detail for you when we discuss your dog.

7. What about behavior modification and rehabilitation?

Give me a call for information about behavior modification and rehabilitation. You can be reassured that I have extensive experience with any dog behaviors. Although your dog's behavior may be particularly upsetting to you, rest assured there is a simple answer that will help and I can provide the answers you need. With a partnership between myself, you, and your dog, we can usually tackle any problem with successful results.

What we dont do?

I dont do dog grooming. I dont do group classes, although of course dogs are properly socialized here at the kennel. I dont do in home training unless its a special situation.
